Creating your own tiki bar for a theme party

If you are in a super hurry to get to build the bar, you need a sturdy table. The size is really up to you, some timber or preferably bamboo for the support posts and cross beams, material for the tiki hut roof, and some exotic decorations.

For the tiki hut roof use a sheet of plywood and attach a mesh of artificial leaves and tropical flowers, or even real palm fronds if they’re available. You might even be able to find a grass skirt you can use around the table or plywood. This will look nice and hide what is under the table.

The support post and cross beam structure is best assembled on the ground, then mounted above the bar.

Decorate your tiki hut with grass mats on the bar top, tiki lanterns and tiki candles, fresh or artificial flowers, glued-on sand, paper cut-outs of frangipanis, starfish or tiki gods, or anything Polynesian.

If your bar is outside you can also use tiki torches to give it a very authentic look and keep the party going late into the night.
