Easy-to-follow porch swing plans, patterns and kits will have you swinging playfully in the breeze in no time.

A porch swing is a lovely and very traditional addition to any outdoor porch or covered deck. There’s nothing more relaxing the gentle rocking motion of a swing as you enjoy the fresh air. Building the porch swing yourself using a simple porch swing plan will save you some money, is lots of fun to do, and very easy for anyone with even the most basic DIY or carpentry skills. You’ll find a fantastic range of porch swing plans, patterns and kits available to download or purchase online. If you do a little online search, you’re sure to find a porch swing which suits the architectural style of your porch and your home perfectly. There are very simple porch swings which are designed to be suspended from the roof of the porch. Otherwise, the porch swing will be suspended from a frame of some kind. A porch glider is very similar to a porch swing, but it is attached to the frame below the seat, rather than from above.

Plans and kits for building your own porch swing.

Using a pre-fabricated kit to assemble the porch swing makes the job very simple, and you’ll generally only need a few very simple carpentry tools, or in some cases, the kit will be fully self-contained. All of the pieces come pre-cut and ready to simply fit together and fasten, so there’s no measuring, cutting or drilling to do.

Building your porch swing from scratch using a plan is a little more complicated, but still a great DIY project for anyone with a few fairly basic skills. Full size plans make the job very simple indeed, because you don’t need to do any measuring. You simply lay your timber on the paper pattern and use it as a guide for cutting, almost like a dressmaking pattern. The plans come with complete instructions, and a list of the materials and tools which are required.
